How a Full-Day Lagoon Tour Works

From the hotel pickup to the ride back after lunch on the motu.

  1. Choose your day

Full days run six to seven hours. Pick by the lunch, the group size and the price, and compare the Viator and GetYourGuide listings of the same trip.

  2. Confirm the pickup

Most full days collect you from your hotel, some by boat, and pickups start before the listed time. One tour boards from the beach near Tiare Market.

  3. Pack for sun and water

Swimwear, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. Bring a towel and fins if your listing does not include them, and water shoes for the motu.

  4. Snorkel, then lunch on a motu

The morning covers two to four snorkel stops. Lunch is on a small islet, often with music or a coconut show, before the boat takes you back.

FULL-DAY GUIDE

Full-Day Lagoon Tours: How the Day Runs and Which to Book

The typical order of stops, who a full day suits, and five tours compared.

A full day on the lagoon lasts six to seven hours and follows a familiar shape: two to four snorkel stops, lunch on a motu (a small islet of coral and sand on the reef), then a slower ride back. Unlike a half day, it includes lunch, and for many visitors it is the one boat day of the trip. Five full days are compared below, with prices checked in September 2026. Check the live price before you book.

How a Full Day Usually Runs

The GetYourGuide listing of the Lagoon Service full day sets out the typical order. You start with stingrays in warm, shallow water, move on to a coral garden, then stop with sharks, which you can swim with or watch from the boat. After some ukulele and drum music on the water, the boat heads to a motu for a buffet at tables by the lagoon: rice salad, grilled fish and meat, and fruit, with Mount Otemanu in view. The afternoon brings a coconut show, a pareo show or a palm-leaf plate workshop before the ride back.

Other operators change the order, and some add a stop where manta rays are sometimes seen. The listings that mention mantas say sightings are not guaranteed.

Who a Full Day Suits

A full day makes sense if you have one day for the lagoon, want lunch taken care of, or are staying on the main island without a resort beach at the door. It also gives you more time on the motu than any half day can.

A half day suits you better if you would rather have the afternoon at your hotel, tire in strong sun, or are travelling with small children. The time in the water is not double on a full day, because lunch takes a long slice of it. One listing sets aside four hours for its motu stop. Our half-day lagoon tours page covers the shorter trips.

The Five Full Days Compared

Lagoon Service: the default choice

The Lagoon Service full-day group tour runs six hours from $174 per person and holds a 5.0 rating from 1,699 Viator reviews, more than any other lagoon tour on this site. Pickup from your accommodation, lunch on a private motu, towels, snorkel gear, water and soft drinks are included. The same day is on GetYourGuide as the Full-Day Tour with Islet Lunch from $170. The listing does not recommend it for pregnant travelers or people with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

Rohivai: a picnic day on GetYourGuide

Rohivai’s full-day lagoon safari runs six hours from $171 per person, rated 4.9 from 774 GetYourGuide reviews. The stops follow a similar pattern, with stingrays and blacktip reef sharks, a coral garden and a manta area, then a Polynesian-style picnic on a motu. Lunch, drinks, a towel and snorkel gear are included. Pickup is by boat from your hotel where the shoreline allows, otherwise from a nearby meeting point. It needs a minimum number of guests to run, and the Viator listing of the same trip is $195. Bring water shoes.

Vavau: the BBQ island lunch

Vavau’s full-day lagoon cruise costs $155 per person, rated 4.8 from 722 reviews. The Viator listing gives six hours and the GetYourGuide version seven. You meet stingrays, see blacktip reef sharks and snorkel in coral gardens, then eat a BBQ and salad bar lunch on a small island, with a beachside performance. Hotel or port pickup is included and gratuities are extra. If a no-feeding policy matters to you, note that the GetYourGuide listing invites guests to feed the rays.

Manu: the longest day, the lowest price here

The full-day tour with lunch on Motu Fanfan runs seven hours from $146 per person, the lowest full-day price on this page, rated 4.9 from 177 reviews. Its itinerary lists an hour each at the Coral Garden, a manta area near Anau and a shark and ray stop, and four hours on Motu Fanfan. Lunch there is grilled fish and chicken, raw fish in coconut milk, rice, taro, manioc, banana poe, coconut bread and fruit. There is no hotel pickup: the boat collects you from the shore on a path beside the Tiare Market. Towels, fins, sunscreen and alcohol are not included.

Moana: adults-only by outrigger canoe

The Moana outrigger canoe cruise is the premium full day at $282 per person, rated 4.9 from 202 reviews. It is for adults 18 and over, capped at six couples, and covers a 26-mile loop of the lagoon with several snorkel stops including the coral gardens, then a BBQ lunch on a private motu. Moana states that it does not feed the sharks or rays, and gives no refund if no animals are seen. Hotel pickup is included.

Which Full Day to Book

For a first visit with no special requirements, book the Lagoon Service day. If you are booking on GetYourGuide, Rohivai has the larger review count there. For the lowest price and the longest time on a motu, choose Manu, as long as you can get to the Tiare Market. For a quiet adults-only day, choose Moana’s canoe. The comparison table sets three of these side by side.
