Before You Book
Your First Snorkel Stop Is Shallow Enough to Stand In
People picture a lagoon tour as deep-water snorkeling from the start. On the Lagoon Service full day the first stop is shallow water, where you meet stingrays and sharks with sand under your feet. Here is how the six hours actually run.
- Pickup — resort, hotel or the Vaitape pier — Pickup from your accommodation is included. A cruise passenger who tendered into Vaitape was met by the guide at the same pier. If you are staying on a motu, ask the operator where they collect you.
- First stop — rays and sharks in the shallows — Reviewers describe a shallow, light-green part of the lagoon where stingrays and sharks swim around you. If you would rather stay dry for the sharks, the listing says you can watch from the boat.
- Coral garden — the proper snorkel — Masks go on for the coral garden, with thousands of reef fish. The boats have a ladder, cushioned benches and a full-length awning, so there is shade between stops.
- Lunch on a private motu — A buffet of local dishes, grilled fish and meat, rice salad and fruit, at tables by the water, with ukulele and drums and often a coconut or pareo show.
- Back six hours after pickup — You are dropped off again about six hours after pickup. Towels, water and soft drinks are included all day; bring reef-safe sunscreen and a hat.

The Short Version
How to Choose a Bora Bora Lagoon Tour
Most of these trips visit the same lagoon. What changes is the length of the day, the lunch, the boat and who else is on it.
A Bora Bora lagoon tour is a boat trip around the main island with stops to swim and snorkel, and on most of them you will meet stingrays and reef sharks in clear, shallow water. From the resort dock they all look alike. They are not. The tours on this site run from two and a half hours to seven, cost from $113 per person to $610 for a private boat, and differ in whether you eat lunch on a motu, how many stops you get and how you are collected. Start with the one question that matters most to you.
Start With What You Want From the Day
If you want the classic full day, with snorkel stops in the morning and lunch on an islet, read our full-day lagoon tours page. If your resort is the point of the trip and you only want the morning or the afternoon on the water, the half-day lagoon tours page compares the shorter trips.
If the snorkeling matters more than the lunch, the snorkeling tours page ranks the trips that spend the most time in the water. If standing among stingrays and blacktip sharks is the reason you came, go to shark and ray tours. For the lunch itself, grilled fish and raw fish in coconut milk served beside the water, see lagoon tours with motu lunch. If you want the boat to be part of the story, traditional canoe tours covers the Polynesian outrigger trips.
If you would rather have the boat to yourselves, the Private Bora Bora Lagoon Experience is priced per boat for up to four guests, from $610 in September 2026, and the captain lets you choose where to stop and for how long. Our private lagoon experience breakdown explains what that price covers.
The Tour Most People Mean
When people talk about “the Bora Bora lagoon tour” they usually mean the Lagoon Service full day. It runs for six hours with pickup from your accommodation, snorkeling with stingrays and sharks, a stop at a coral garden and lunch on a private motu. Snorkel gear, towels, water and soft drinks are included. With 1,699 reviews and a 5.0 rating on Viator, it is the most-reviewed lagoon tour we track, and it cost from $174 per person in September 2026.
Reviewers describe the day in the same order: rays and sharks first, in shallow light-green water, then the coral garden, then a Polynesian lunch on the islet with music and a little culture. One cruise passenger who tendered into Vaitape was collected by the guide at the same pier. It suits first-time visitors, families, and anyone who wants the whole lagoon in one booking. It suits you less if you get restless on a boat for six hours. Our full-day group tour breakdown has the itinerary and the health restrictions.
Two Platforms, One Trip
Most operators here sell the same trip on both Viator and GetYourGuide, each with its own price and its own reviews. The Lagoon Service full day is also on GetYourGuide, from $170 in September 2026. It is the same operator running the same day. Before you book any tour on this site, compare the two prices; the gap is often a few dollars and occasionally more. Each tour page shows the second platform next to the booking card, and our tour operators compared guide lists which operator sells what on each platform.
If Half a Day Is Enough
The half day with the most reviews on this site is the Reef Discovery half day: 3.5 hours, 1,042 reviews at 5.0, from $136 per person. Its guides get in the water with you, fins are included, and reviewers mention manta rays, eagle rays and a large coral garden. The H2O half-day snorkeling tour is similar in length and runs small groups, with a rule worth knowing: you must be able to climb the boat ladder on your own. Both skip lunch, which is the main thing you give up against a full day. Our Reef Discovery breakdown sets out the stops.
For the shortest trip compared here, and one of the two lowest-priced, the Moana eco snorkel cruise spends two and a half hours on sharks, rays and the Coral Garden, from $113 per person, and the operator says it does not feed the animals. The coral garden snorkeling page explains which tours stop there.
If Lunch on a Motu Is the Point
A motu is one of the low, palm-covered islets that sit on the reef around the lagoon, and lunch on one is what turns a snorkel trip into a day out. The strongest listing on GetYourGuide is Rohivai’s full-day lagoon safari: six hours, 838 reviews at 4.9, from $171 per person, with a Polynesian picnic on a motu and pickup by boat from your resort when the water in front of it is deep enough. The same trip is on Viator from $195. Its itinerary includes a manta stop, and the listing is candid that the mantas may not show up. That is true of every tour here, which is why our manta ray tours page only quotes what each listing says.
If you are a couple and want a quieter boat, the Moana outrigger canoe day caps the trip at six couples, serves a barbecue on a private motu and takes adults 18 and over only.
A Few Things That Apply to Every Tour
Every tour here offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, and several say weather can move or cancel a trip, with another date or a refund offered. Sightings are never guaranteed, and some operators state they will not refund if the animals stay away. Most listings are not recommended for pregnant travellers or people with poor cardiovascular health.
If you are staying on a motu resort, check how pickup works before you book, because some operators collect from your pontoon by boat and others meet you at a dock nearby. If you are arriving by cruise ship, leave a margin: at least one operator states it will not refund a tour missed because the ship’s tender ran late.
If you are still weighing them up, which lagoon tour should I book picks one tour for each kind of traveller. Otherwise, the tour at the top of this page is the one most visitors choose, so check availability for your dates.

Bora Bora Lagoon Tour FAQ
The questions people ask before they book, answered from the operators' own listings.
Shared tours on this site started at $113 per person in September 2026 for the 2.5-hour Moana eco snorkel cruise and Rohivai's half-day safari. The Lagoon Service full day with motu lunch was from $174 on Viator or $170 on GetYourGuide, and the luxury catamaran from $312. A private boat costs from $610 per boat for up to four. Always check the live price. See half-day lagoon tours for the lower-priced trips.
A half day runs 2.5 to 4 hours and covers the snorkel stops: rays and sharks, a coral garden and sometimes a manta area. A full day runs 6 to 7 hours and adds a long lunch on a motu, often with music or a coconut show. Choose the half day if you want time at your resort; choose the full day if you want the lagoon to be the whole day. The full-day lagoon tours page compares the longer trips.
It varies by listing, so read the inclusions. The Lagoon Service full day includes pickup from your accommodation, snorkel gear, towels, bottled water, soft drinks and lunch. Reef Discovery's half day includes fins and a beach towel. The Moana eco cruise includes a mask, snorkel and water, but asks you to bring your own towel, and Manu's full day excludes towels, fins and sunscreen. Our full-day group tour breakdown lists everything for the flagship.
The sharks on these tours are mostly blacktip reef sharks (one listing also names lemon sharks), met in shallow water with a guide beside you. Rohivai's listing calls them harmless, and Lagoon Service says you can watch from the boat if you prefer not to get in. Several listings supply life vests. Operators do list health limits: most tours are not recommended for pregnant travellers or people with poor cardiovascular health. The shark and ray tours page compares each operator's approach.
Possibly, but no tour guarantees it. Manu's full day lists a 60-minute manta stop around the Anau area, H2O says its tours regularly encounter manta rays, and Rohivai's full-day safari says mantas can be found there, or not. Many recent reviews mention them. Some operators state that no refund is given if the animals do not appear. Our manta ray tours page quotes what each listing actually says.
Both run. H2O's half day and the Moana eco cruise sell morning and afternoon departures. Manu's listing says mantas are most active early in the morning, and one GetYourGuide reviewer suggested the morning trip for eagle rays. An afternoon slot suits a late breakfast or a first day off the plane. Sightings depend on the day either way. The half-day page shows which trips offer both.
It depends on your group. The La Plage private experience costs from $610 per boat for up to four for 3.5 hours, so four people pay about $153 each, less than the shared full day but without lunch. You choose the stops and how long you stay at each. Couples pay the same boat price, which is where it gets expensive. Reviewers with young children valued the attention. See our private lagoon experience breakdown.
Most tours include pickup from your accommodation, and several collect by boat. Rohivai picks up at your resort if the sea access is safe (enough depth, sandy bottom, no coral) and otherwise at a nearby meeting point. Reef Discovery's GetYourGuide listing picks up from your hotel pontoon. Manu's boat collects from the shore near Tiare Market. Tell the operator your resort when you book. The Rohivai full-day page lists its pickup points.
Swimwear, a hat, sunglasses and biodegradable sunscreen are on most operators' lists. Rohivai also suggests water shoes and a camera, and Reef Discovery recommends a rash vest for sensitive skin and a change of clothes. Bring your own towel on the Moana eco cruise and on Manu's full day, which exclude it. Wear your swimsuit to the pickup. The snorkeling tours page compares the snorkel-led trips.
Often, yes. The first stop is usually shallow enough to stand in, and Reef Discovery provides life jackets and guides who help less confident swimmers. Lagoon Service takes infants on a lap. Some tours set limits: H2O requires you to climb the ladder unaided and a medical certificate from 70, the catamaran starts at 8, the Moana outrigger day is 18 and over, and Onoku's canoe tour is not suitable for non-swimmers. See snorkeling tours for beginner-friendly picks.
Yes. Cruise tenders land at Vaitape, and a recent Lagoon Service reviewer was met by the guide at the same pier. Rohivai lists Quai de Vaitape as a pickup point, and Reef Discovery says it departs within walking distance of the cruise port. Leave a margin: Reef Discovery states it will not refund a tour missed because the ship arrived late. A half day fits a port call most easily. Compare them on half-day lagoon tours, and see the cruise shore excursions guide for tender timings.
Every tour on this site has free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Rohivai and La Plage say that if weather cancels the trip you will be offered another date or a full refund. Reef Discovery runs rain or shine and refunds for heavy rain or thunderstorms. Once a tour has started, cancelling yourself earns no refund on Rohivai. Book early in your stay so there is room to rebook. See which lagoon tour to book.
Some do and some do not. H2O and Moana both state that they do not feed sharks or rays, and H2O says it observes marine life without staging encounters. Vavau's GetYourGuide listing, by contrast, invites guests to feed the rays. If a no-feeding approach matters to you, book one of the operators that says so in its listing. The shark and ray tours page marks which is which.
It varies, so compare. Most operators sell one trip on both platforms at slightly different prices. In September 2026 the Lagoon Service full day was $174 on Viator and $170 on GetYourGuide, Rohivai's full-day safari $171 on GetYourGuide and $195 on Viator, and Moana's eco cruise $113 on Viator and $108 on GetYourGuide. Reviews are counted separately on each platform. See the full-day group tour page.
